An idol, likely made of cast stone, has been found while digging a pond in Thakurgaon’s Haripur upazila.
According to locals, the Agun Goa pond in Jamun Kumarpara village of the upazila was being dug out on Thursday. The soil from the digging site was taken to a nearby brick kiln, where the idol was found.
“As soon as the idol was found, I informed the police,” said local Union Parishad Chairman Pavel Talukder.
Haripur police station Officer-in-Charge SM Aurangzeb said: “After being informed, we recovered the idol. The type of idol is yet to be determined.”
OC Aurangzeb said it could be a Vishnu idol of the Hindu community.
It is not possible to say what it is made of or how much it costs at this moment, he added.
The Vishnu statue has been taken to Haripur police station and will be sent for testing.
