BNP’s Chittagong city unit Chief Dr Shahadat Hossain has been shown arrested in three cases filed over violence.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sarwar Jahan ordered him to be sent to prison on Tuesday pending trial.
Besides, 15 BNP leaders and activists, arrested in connection with Monday’s clash with police, were also shown arrested in two other cases and sent to jail.
Shahadat's lawyer Advocate SM Badrul Anwar said the next hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
Md Jahidul Alam, the lawyer representing the 15 BNP activists, said police produced them before court on Tuesday afternoon and sought a seven-day remand.
The court sent them to jail and fixed Wednesday for the remand hearing.
Police filed two separate cases against 56 BNP leaders and activists at Kotwali police station in Chittagong.
