The 45th death anniversary of Jasimuddin, popularly known as “Palli Kabi” (folk poet), has been observed in Faridpur.
As part of the celebration, Deputy Commissioner Dipak Kumar Roy, also the president of Jasim Foundation, along with the superintendent of district police paid floral tributes to the poet's grave at Ambikapur on Sunday morning.
People from all walks of life and members of different cultural and social organizations also paid their respects to the poet.
A discussion and doa mahfil were held at the yard of the poet's house.
Jasimuddin, a Bengali poet, songwriter, and folklore collector, was born on January 1, 1903, at Tambulkhana village on the outskirts of Faridpur town.
Jasimuddin's ageless creation “Nakshi Kanthar Math” was translated into several foreign languages.
He was also the creator of “Shojon Badiyar Ghat,” “Rangila Nayer Majhi,” “Matir Kanna,”“Suchayani,” “Beder Meye,” “Pallibadhu,” “Thakur Badir Abinay,” and “Dalim Kumar,” etc.
When he was still a university student, his poem “Kabar” (Grave) was included in school textbooks.
He played a key role in the revival of folk literature in Bengal during the 20th century.
A versatile writer, Jasimuddin wrote poems, ballads, songs, dramas, novels, stories, memoirs, travelogues, and more.
