Law enforcers have arrested a man accused of hacking and beating three people, including his grandmother and aunt, to death in Faridpur’s Sadar upazila.
The arrestee, Akash Molla, 40, allegedly carried out the murders at Gadadhardangi village around 10:00pm on Monday, after which he went into hiding.
Assistant Director of Rapid Action Battalionb-10 Faridpur camp Rezaul Karim confirmed the arrest on Tuesday morning.
A joint team of Faridpur Kotwali Police and Rab-10 arrested him around 6:00am from a banana grove beside his house, he said.
The victims were identified as his grandmother, Amena Begum, 75, his aunt Saleha Begum, 55, and a neighbour, Kabul Chowdhury, 49.
Two others -- Riyazul Islam, 38, and Arzina Begum, 38 -- were injured and admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Officer-in-Charge of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, Md Shahidul Islam, said the accused has been brought to the police station and is being questioned.
A case is being filed, and further legal procedures are underway, he said.
He added that the three bodies have been kept at the morgue of Faridpur Medical College Hospital and will be handed over to the families after autopsies.
