Two people have been killed and five others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a three-wheeler vehicle, locally known as easybike, in Abhaynagar upazila of Jessore.
The accident took place in the Bhanga Gate area around 9:30am on Friday.
One of the deceased is identified as Shahidul Islam, a resident of Moshorhati village in the upazila. He was the driver of the easybike.
Nawapara highway police station Officer-in-Charge Mahmud Alam said a Kushtia-bound bus of Rupsha Paribahan from Khulna collided with the easybike, leaving its driver and six passengers -- all coal workers -- injured.
They were taken to Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty physician declared two of them dead.
Police seized the bus, but its driver and his assistant fled the scene, he added.
Dr Faria Rahman of the health complex said two victims were brought dead at the hospital.
Four others, among five, are in critical condition and have been referred to Khulna Medical College and Hospital, she said.
Witnesses said the easybike was heading towards Nawapara Bazar carrying a group of coal workers.
The bus lost its control while overtaking another bus and hit the easybike, they said.
