Residents of two separate Satkhira villages have beaten some 76 snakes to death upon discovering those at houses in Sadar and Ashashuni upazilas.
One Ismail Hossain of Sadar upazila said: “One small cobra climbed onto my mother’s hand on Wednesday night, we killed it immediately. We saw another snake inside our house following morning and beaten that to death too.
“Later we dug into the floor and discovered 56 more snakes along with 50 eggs. However, no big snake was found when we called up a snake charmer at the spot,” he added.

Quoting Ismail, Dhulihor Union Parishad Chairman Mizanur Rahman Babu said, “The family did not sense presence of snakes before that night. Now they have put up net around the house so that no snake can enter further.”
Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, 20 more cobras were found from a pit at the house of one Makbul Sardar of Beula village under Ashashuni upazila. All those snakes were killed by the terrified villagers.
Meanwhile over 150 cobras were discovered and beaten to death in separate houses in Rajshahi district in last three days.
