Protesters demand justice for death of journalist Muzakkir in Noakhali

Muzakkir, 25, sustained gunshot wounds in a clash between supporters of two political leaders in Companiganj

Local journalist leaders on Sunday formed a human chain to demand exemplary punishment for everyone involved in the death of journalist Borhan Uddin Muzakkir in Noakhali’s Companiganj upazila.

Companiganj Press Club staged the protest at Bangabandhu Chattar in Basurhat at 11:30am, reports Bangla Tribune.

Muzakkir, 25, was critically wounded in a clash between supporters of Basurhat municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and former upazila chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal in Companiganj on Friday.

He died while undergoing treatment at the ICU of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 11pm on Saturday.

Speakers at the human chain called for exemplary punishment of those involved in the death of the young journalist and offered their condolences to the bereaved family.

Afterwards, a procession was held as well. 

Inspector Bacchu Miah, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, told Dhaka Tribune that the deceased’s body was being kept in the morgue for autopsy.

DMCH emergency department Resident Medical Officer Dr Alauddin said Muzakkir was admitted to the ICU as he was in a critical condition after sustaining gunshot wounds in his neck.

Muzakkir was the Companiganj correspondent for The Daily Bangladesh Samachar.
