A 44-year-old woman has died after she accidentally fell inside a lift shaft at a private hospital in the Sadar upazila of Noakhali.
The victim is Jahura Khatun, of Chandrapur union in the district, police said.
Sudharam Model police station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Sahed Uddin said Jahura, also the mother of three children, went to G8 Grameen General Hospital on Sunday to visit her father-in-law, who was admitted there.
As she tried to get on the lift on the 4th floor, to go down, the lift went up to the fifth floor and Jahura fell down the shaft and died on the spot.
Later police, on information, recovered the body and opened an investigation into the incident.
OC Shahed said legal action will be taken if anyone is found responsible for the death.
But as of 10:30pm, there was no update of any case being filed in this connection.
The hospital's managing director, Md Shahid Ullah, also confirmed the development, without commenting on if there was any negligence or technical glitch involved in the accident.
