As many as six construction workers were killed and four others were injured when a truck and a human hauler (locally known as Alam Sadhu) collided in Jhenaidah
The incident occurred in the district’s Madandanga area on the Jhenaidah-Kushtia Highway under Shailkupa upazila on Wednesday evening.
However, the identities of the deceased and one of the injured could not be ascertained immediately.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Jhenaidah Assistant Superintendent of Police (Shailkupa circle) Ariful Islam, said: “A group of construction workers was returning to Jhenaidah city from Shailkupa’s Sheikhpara area on a human hauler (locally known as Alam Sadhu) which had a mixer machine attached to it.
“At one point, a truck heading towards Kushtia from Jhenaidah rammed into the vehicle carrying the workers.”
“Altogether six people died on the spot. Four more – Rabbi Hasan, 25, Ripon Hossain, 35, Mehedi Hasan, 32, and another unidentified individual –were seriously injured. They have been admitted to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital for treatment.”
“Those who died in the accident were residents of different upazilas in Jhenaidah,” the police official added.
