A local Awami League leader has been arrested for reportedly raping a woman three months ago in Natore.
The arrestee is Ibrahim Dewan, general secretary of Ward 3 under Piprul union of Naldanga upazila. He is a resident of East Bashbhag village.
According to the case statement, on October 3, Ibrahim asked a woman, wife of a daily labourer, to visit him to collect a VGF (Vulnerable Group Feeding) card. He then took her to a house next door and reportedly raped her while two of his associates filmed the incident. They reportedly blackmailed her that they would the video if she told someone about the rape.
On Friday night, the woman filed a case with Naldanga police station after Ibrahim reportedly blackmailed her, using the video, to have sexual intercourse with him.
She filed a case against three individuals – Ibrahim and his two associates.
Naldanga OC Nazrul Islam Mridha confirmed the matter and said that police conducted a drive and arrested Ibrahim and one of his associate, Bakul, of the same village, on Saturday morning.
Investigative officer (IO) of the case, Sub-Inspector Momin said they later produced the duo before a court which sent them to jail.
Ibrahim’s family, when contacted, said that he has been framed with rape charges over another matter.
Meanwhile the OC said that further investigation will reveal details.
