The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has apprehended three members of an NID forgery gang from Arefin Nagar area under Bayezid police station in Chittagong.
The detainees were identified as Abdur Rahim, 59, Azizul Karim Russel, 35 and his wife Selina Akhter, 28.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive at a house at Arefin Nagar area and managed to nab the trio early on Tuesday.
.During primary interrogation, the trio confessed to their involvement with forging fake NID cards and birth certificates.
The detainees further said that they used to provide forged NID cards to forcibly displaced Rohingya people in exchange for a huge sum of money.
The Rab-7 members also recovered three fake NID cards, fake birth and marriage certificates, fake attested copies, fake vaccination cards and different seals from their possessions.
Mahmudul Hasan Mamun, Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-7, said that the detainees and recovered goods were handed over to the Bayezid police station for further legal procedures.
