Officials from river police have recovered a dead body of a woman from a cabin at the Chandpur bound launch MV Abe-e-Jamjam.
The body was recovered on Thursday noon from a drivers’ cabin situated at the second floor of the launch, confirmed Md Nasim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sadar Model police station.
The launch began its journey from Dhaka to Chandpur on Wednesday 11:30pm, said an employee of the launch, Geyser Md Sujan Molla.
“A couple rented my room at the launch in return of Tk600 on Wednesday night. But when we went to clean the locked room on Thursday morning, we found the girl’s dead body in it,” added the man.
Informed by the employees we made a drive to the launch and found the body of the woman, said Snighdha Sarker, additional superintendent of police, Chandpur.
“She was strangled to death with the ribbon she was wearing. Whether she was raped or not will be known after an autopsy,” she said.
“We suspect the man who was accompanying her at the launch might have killed her. We are investigating the matter,” added the police officer.
Police detained three staff from the launch to question about the incident, she further said.
