Members of the Jessore Democratic Lawyers’ Association have vowed not to stand up for rape accused.
The association made the pledge during a rally on Thursday morning under the slogan: “Rise against violence and rape against women, stand up and save society from all evils including corruption.”
"We will not stand in court for them to provide legal assistance," the leaders said.
The speakers said that the ongoing violence against women and violation of women's human rights has reached epidemic proportions and that nobody is safe.

Calling upon the state to play a strong role in providing security to all citizens, the speakers said that it is not just rapists who deserve exemplary punishment, but also their enablers and patrons.
Many members of the association, including its President Mahmud Hasan Bulu, , general secretaries Azizur Rahman Sabu, Kazi Furdul Islam, Aminur Rahman Hiru and Basudeb Biswas spoke under the chairmanship of Abul Hossain spoke during the rally.
Mahila Parishad Jessore district branch Legal Aid Secretary Kamrun Nahar Kona also joined in, expressing solidarity.
