Police have arrested eight muggers with a toy pistol, six knives and a machete.
They were apprehended from the city’s Old Railway Station area early Monday, police said.
Kotwali police OC Mohammad Mohsin identified the arrestees as Badiul Alam alias Badi, 26, Md Tarek, 27, Md Mamun, Jewel Das, 26, Asif Hossain alias Sakib, 20, Mehedi Hasan, 23, Ripon Dutt, 20 and Md Sohel, 25.
He said that all of them were professional muggers.
“During primary interrogation, they confessed that they were involved with different crimes including mugging in the city,” he said.
The OC added that two different cases under the Arms Act and the Penal Code were lodged against them as they had assembled to mug people.
