Waste treatment plant fined 14L for releasing untreated waste

At least 92,300 cubic metres untreated liquid waste was released as the plant remained dysfunctional in the last 10 days

The Department of Environment (DoE) fined a waste treatment plant with Tk14.76 lakh for polluting the environment by releasing untreated liquid waste.

The errant enterprise was identified as Chittagong Waste Treatment Plant (CWTP) located at the city’s CEPZ area.   

DoE Director (Chittagong Metro) Mohammad Nurullah Noori slapped the fine after a hearing at his office on Sunday.

CWTP Director Nur Mohammad attended the hearing on behalf of the errant enterprise.

As per the confession of the defendant, 9230 cubic metres liquid waste is released every day from the waste treatment plant.

By that count, 92300 cubic metres untreated liquid waste has been released as the plant remained dysfunctional in the last 10 days.
