Netrakona boat capsize: Two remaining bodies recovered

A five-member probe committee was formed on Thursday to investigate the incident

The remaining two missing persons have been recovered dead, following the capsizing of a boat in the Gumai River of Netrakona two days ago. This takes the death toll to 12, including six children.

The bodies of Ratan Miya, 35, and five-year-old Monira, were recovered separately in Dharmapasha upazila of Sunamganj, Friday morning. 

On Wednesday, 12 people drowned following a collision in the Gumai River, between the boat carrying them, and a sand barge.

A Netrakona Fire Service and Civil Defence team conducted a rescue operation till Thursday night and managed to recover 10 bodies.

A five member probe committee was formed the same day to investigate the incident.

Additional District Magistrate Md Abdullah Al Mahmud, leading the committee, was asked to submit his report by September 17, confirmed Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Netrakona, Kazi Mohammad Abdur Rahman.

A case was filed against six individuals with Kalmakanda police station on Thursday. 

Kalmakanda police took five people into custody the same day, for questioning regarding the incident, confirmed Kalmakanda police station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Abdur Rahman.
