Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has gunned down a Bangladesh citizen after he entered the Indian territory near Telkupi border in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.
The incident took place on Saturday night.
The deceased is Badsha, a resident of Telkupi village under Shahabazpur union in the upazila.
Tojammel Haq, chairman of Shahabazpur union parishad (UP), said Badsha went to India crossing the border at night when the members of Shabdelpur BSF camp opened fire on him, leaving him dead on the spot.
"The reason could not be known why he entered the Indian territory."
The body is still inside the Indian border under the BSF custody, he added.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion 59 Commanding Officer Lt Col Mahmudul Hasan said the sound of firing two bullets was heard along the border at night.
"We are yet to identify whether the deceased is a Bangladeshi or not as the body is now in Indian territory," he said.
"We have sent a letter to the BSF to know the matter."
Earlier on August 16, BSF shot another Bangladeshi dead near Shingnagar border in Shibganj upazila of the district.
