Five children drowned while bathing in the Pagla River in the Char Chakla area of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon.
The victims could not be identified immediately.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Model Police Station Ekramul Hossain said several children went to the river around 1pm to bathe. At one point, five of them drowned.
Local residents later searched the river and recovered the bodies of all five children one by one.
The OC said all five victims were residents of Char Chakla, but their identities could not be confirmed immediately.
Police were sent to the spot after being informed of the incident, he added.
