Police have arrested four men on charges of gang-raping a woman after confining her husband inside a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the city’s Bayezid area early Sunday.
The suspects were identified as Badsha Mia, 36, Md Jabed, 24, Md Rabin, 19, and Md Ibrahim, 30.
Another accused, Md Safi, 34, is now on the run. All five are CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers by profession.
After receiving a phone call on the emergency number 999 around 2am, police rescued the victim and made the arrests.
The victim was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for medical tests and a case was filed over the incident.
Priton Sarker, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bayezid Bostami police station, told Dhaka Tribune the suspectss intercepted the couple when they were returning home from work at 10:30pm on Saturday.
“The suspects demanded the couple to show evidence of their marital relationship. At one stage, the husband was trussed up inside a CNG-run auto-rickshaw while the wife was taken to nearby Salma Colony, where she was gang-raped by the five men inside a room there,” said the OC, adding that drives are underway to arrest the fifth suspect.
