Officials and staff of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project have been ordered not to share any information, photos, or videos of construction activities of the bridge on social media.
A letter signed by project director Shafiqul Alom was sent to all departments of the project in this regard.
Confirming the matter on Sunday, the project’s executive engineer Dewan Abdul Kader, said: “It has been observed that many officials of the project shared information about the bridge in the past that was fake. For this reason, this ban has been imposed. But, print and electronic media can do news about the Padma bridge.”
“The installation of spans will resume after the water level decreases. No span could be installed after the 31st span was installed on June 10 due to strong currents on the river.” the official added.
Furthermore, expensive materials kept at the yard intended for the bridge construction, including 30-40 slabs of the bridge, 15-20 railway girders, and 10-20 pipes were lost to the Padma River on July 31.
The boundary wall of the Mawa construction yard was also damaged.
Once in operation, the Padma Bridge will connect 21 southern districts with the capital and raise the country's GDP by 1.2 percent, according to experts.
The 6.15km long two story bridge is being constructed of steel and concrete. The main bridge is being built by the China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Company Limited.
