A case has been filed against upazila Awami League President Babul Akter in connection with an attack on an army officer's house in Kushtia’s Khoksa upazila.
Arifur Rahman, the younger brother of the army officer, filed the case on Saturday afternoon accusing 10 people including Babul.
Confirming the matter, Khoksa police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahurul Alam said legal action will be taken against the culprits.
According to locals, Lt Col Atiq, who is serving in the Bangladesh Army, owns a piece of land next to Banagram Secondary School in Khoksa. Babul Akhter, also the president of the school's board of directors, proposed to buy the land.
The army officer rejected the Awami League leader's proposal. Since then, Babul has been in conflict with Atiq.
This dispute led to the attack on the army officer's house on Thursday afternoon. Residents of the house were physically assaulted during this onslaught.
The family of Lt Col Atiq lodged a written complaint with the police on the same day accusing Babul and his men. This only made Babul angrier as he went to the army officer’s house again on Friday and threatened the residents.
Arifur Rahman, the plaintiff in the case, said: “Armed men, led by upazila Awami League President Babul, attacked our house with machetes, hammers, and sticks. They physically assaulted the people of the house.”
OC Jahurul said Arifur has filed the case alleging land grabbing, assault, and intimidation, accusing 10 people including Babul Akter.
Legal action will be taken against the culprits after the matter is investigated, he added.
Contacted, Khoksa upazila Awami League President Babul Akter claimed that he had no involvement in the attack.
