A dolphin was found dead in the Jhapali Char area along the Kholpetua River in Satkhira's Shyamnagar upazila on Sunday.
Locals informed the matter to Kashimari Union Parishad (UP) Chairman SM Abdur Rouf, who then conveyed the message to the Upazila Fisheries Office.
UP Chairman Abdur Rouf said: "Previously there were many dolphins during the low tides, but as the river shrank in size, dolphins became a rare sight. It was decided that the dolphin would be buried.”
The dead dolphin is a male weighing around 80kg. It has a height of five feet and four inches, said Tushar Mazumdar, a fisheries officer in Shyamnagar.
