Two people including an official of ATN News were killed and another injured as a truck hit the motorcycle carrying them at Bamundi Nishipur in Gangni upazila of Meherpur on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Mokbul Hossain, 29, assistant manager of marketing department of ATN News channel and his friend Md Aktheruzzaman, 28, of the upazila.
Mokbul and Aktheruzzamn were declared dead at a local hospital while another sustained injuries.
According to the injured Antu Miya, he and Aktheruzzaman were riding along with Mokbul on his motorcycle and headed to Bamundi. When they reached muddy and slippery roads in Bamundi Nishipur, Mokbul lost control of the motorcycle and they all fell off on the road. At that time, a speeding truck hit Mokbul and Aktheruzzaman, killing them on the spot.
Locals said both the victims graduated from Rajshahi University and had moved to Dhaka in search of work.
Gangni police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Obaider Rahman said the truck driver managed to flee but the vehicle was seized.
