Chittagong teen commits suicide: Probe finds SI Helal responsible

The probe body recommends suspending the errant SI Helal and taking departmental action against him

A three-member probe body of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) formed to investigate into the suicide of a 16-year old boy after police raid in Chittagong has recommended the suspension of the sub-inspector of Double Mooring police station.

The probe body headed by Deputy Commissioner of DB (West) Md Manzur Morshed submitted its report to the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Md Mahabubor Rahman on Monday.

AM Humayun Kabir, CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (West) confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

“As per the recommendations of the probe body, Sub Inspector Helal Uddin has been suspended and process underway to file a departmental case against him,” said Kabir .

The probe body also found that the Officer-in-Charge of Double Mooring police station Sadip Kumar Das had lack of supervision over his subordinate officers, he said

Therefore, the probe body recommended issuing a show-cause notice to the OC in this regard, the police official added.   

Previously, a tenth grader committed suicide after his mother and two sisters sustained injuries during a scuffle with the police when they tried to detain him without reason.

The incident took place in the city’s Badamtali Boro Masjid area under Double Mooring police station on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Salman Islam Maruf, a tenth grader of a local high school.
