Jamir Uddin, 60, a resident of Golapganj upazila, Sylhet has recently been hospitalised after his sons and wife brutally tortured him.
The incident took place in Naowai Chak Dakkhin village of Lakkhanaband union on Tuesday.
Police arrested his three sons, Shalek, 25, Shalik,23, Manik, 20, and Jamir’s wife Askarun Begum, 50, on Tuesday after a video of the brutal incident went viral on social media.
After suffering the torture from his family, the poor man tried to take his life on the same night of the incident, police said.
“After learning of the incident through Facebook, we made a drive to the area with Golapganj’s ASP Rashedul Haque Chowdhury and Golapganj Model police station OC Md Harunur Rashid Chowdhury and arrested the four accused,” said Md Farid Uddin, superintendent of police of the district.
“The elderly man was facing their wrath for reportedly taking a loan without informing his sons and not giving them money after selling his cattle,” said Golapganj Police OC Harunur Rashid.
“Acting on a case filed by the elderly man, we sent the accused four to jail after producing them before the court,” added the OC.
Quoting the incident to be inhuman, Superintendent of Sylhet Police Md Farid Uddin assured that all legal actions will be taken against the accused and the victim has been sent to his home after thorough treatment.
