Covid-19 ward inaugurated at Chittagong Port Hospital

As many as 6,000 staff of the Chittagong port will be benefited from the newly-built hospital and Covid-19 ward

The newly-built Chittagong Port Hospital equipped with an isolation ward for coronavirus (Covid-19) patients has been inaugurated in the city.

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury inaugurated the new facility yesterday.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Chairman Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad, members and all the departmental heads of the port.  

Two blocks of the hospital with 50 beds have been dedicated to Covid-19 treatment.  A total of 159 healthcare professionals including 13 doctors and 36 nurses have been recruited for the Covid-19 ward at the facility which is equipped with a high flow oxygen supply system.

The port officials said that an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) will be set-up at the hospital in the near future.

The construction of the new building of the port hospital began in 2014. The four-storey building of the hospital is divided into five blocks.

The 100,000sqft facility equipped with 150 beds will be upgraded into 250 beds in phases.

As many as 6,000 staff of the Chittagong port will be benefited from the newly built hospital and Covid-19 ward.
