Two held for making derogatory remarks on Facebook

In Moulvibazar, Juned Ahmed, general secretary of Barekha upazila unit Awami League filed a case against five people

Two people were arrested in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA) in Moulvibazar and Kishoreganj on Thursday for reportedly making derogatory remarks about ministers including the premier on Facebook.

The arrested are:  Delwar Hossain, 28, of Nijbahadupur village in Moulvibazar's Barlekha upazila and Shiblu Miya, 36, of Dashakhania village in Kishoreganj's Katiadi upazila.

In Moulvibazar, Juned Ahmed, general secretary of Barekha upazila unit Awami League filed a case against five people including Delwar on Thursday night.

According to the case statement, a group of  supporters of Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat-Shibir have been spreading propaganda and defaming various ministers including the premier and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from June 10 to June 16.

In Kishoreganj, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Shiblu  from Gachihata Bazar in Katiadi upazila on Thursday night, said  Katiadi police station OC Abdul Jalil.

Jalil said, tipped off, a team of RAB-14 conducted a drive in the area and arrested Shiblu at around 9pm.

Shiblu used to make derogatory remarks and spread propaganda against the Prime Minister and other ministers by opening a facebook Id 'Zia Soinik Dal Kotiadi upazila Branch', he said.

"A case was filed against Shiblu under the Digital Security Act.'' added the OC.
