Chittagong chapter of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) has announced to suspend its telemedicine services in protest against the death of Dr Abdur Rakib Khan.
Confirming the matter, BMA Chittagong chapter president Dr Mujibul Haque said they have decided to suspend the telemedicine services from Thursday.
“As you know, we took an initiative from Chittagong wing of BMA to provide telemedicine services from March 25 following the outbreak of novel coronavirus in the country. We have not gone for any work abstention to protest the death,” said Dr Mujibul.
Dr Mujibul, however, could not say when the telemedicine services will resume.
BMA secretary Dr Faisal Iqbal Chowdhury regretted the inconvenience for the suspension of the telemedicine services.
“The patients are requested to contact the emergency department of Flu Corner of any private or government hospital,” said Dr Faisal.
Dr Rakib, who was a lifelong member of Khulna BMA, was injured in a scuffle with a patient’s relatives at a private hospital and died on Tuesday evening while receiving treatment at the Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Specialized Hospital in Khulna.
