At least two people from a family have committed suicide after a family dispute over the financial crisis in Dupchanchia, Bogra.
The deceased, Saraswati Barman, 47, and her son Rabindra Chandra Barman, 22, who was a student of CSE in Daffodil University, consumed poisonous tablets on Wednesday afternoon after a dispute with her husband over their financial crisis, police say.
Locals say Saraswati’s husband Nitai Chandra Barman was a poor farmer and frugal in nature. The family used to have disputes over money and ever since the lockdown, it became worse, locals alleged.
“The mother died on the way to the hospital and the son died while undergoing treatment,” said Dupchanchia police station Sub-inspector Jakir Hossain.
“We will hand the bodies over to the family after the autopsy on Thursday,” added the OC.
An untimely death case has been filed by the deceased’s daughter, police confirmed.
