The strong role of a mother is the most effective way to keep the future generation on the right track and prevent them from developing ideas like terrorism and extremism, experts said.

They made the statement on Friday at a certificate distribution ceremony of a four-month long workshop titled “Parenting for Peace”.

A total of 125 mothers received certificates under the MotherSchools, Bangladesh project in collaboration with Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF).

At the event, Sultana Kamal, a former adviser to the caretaker government, said the role of mothers in preventing extremism and violence should not be underestimated.

MP Aroma Dutta said that the inclusion of mothers in such training has added a new dimension to maintain social harmony.

Austria-based organization Women Without Borders Executive Director Dr Edit Schlaffer and MJF Executive Director Shaheen Anam also spoke at the event.

Moslema Bari, executive director of Community Participation, said: “Our mothers today are very much aware of the knowledge gained from MotherSchools. Everyone is hopeful that more such training workshops will be held in the future.

Certified mothers also expressed their feelings by saying: "We will strive to build a safe society free of radicalism for our children by utilizing the knowledge gained from mother school."

They said that they learned the various details of parenting including what to say or do with the children.

The ceremony ended with a cultural program performed by the certificate-receiving mothers.
