With each day passing, the death toll from the deadly coronavirus (Covid-19) is surging in Chittagong.
One person has died in the last 24 hours taking the death toll to 100 on Tuesday as the port city witnessed 99 fresh cases.
As of Tuesday, Chittagong recorded a total of 4,167 confirmed cases of Covid-19. Of them, 100 patients have died of the deadly viral disease.
Currently, 357 persons are in home quarantine while 243 persons are in isolation in Chittagong.
According to Chittagong Civil Surgeon office, 51% of the infected are between the 21-40 age bracket.
While 72% of the infected are from the city, the remaining 28% of the infected are from different upazilas of the district.
So far, 285 patients have returned home after recovering from the coronavirus in Chittagong.
Chittagong Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said that Chittagong is now witnessing community transmission of the novel coronavirus.
“We should be careful as the number of people getting infected with the deadly viral disease is increasing with each day passing. We should abide by all the health regulations and social distancing to contain the spread of Covid-19,” said the Civil Surgeon.
