Covid-19: Bandarban's Sadar, Ruma upazilas marked Red Zones, total lockdown from Wednesday

As a result, transportations, shops, offices and courts will remain closed while emergency services remain active in limited capacity until further notice

Update : 09 Jun 2020, 04:41 PM

In order to curb the increasing number of coronavirus cases in Bandarban, its district administration on Tuesday announced Sadar and Ruma upazila as red zones.

"These two upazilas, marked as red zones for having an increasing number of cases, will go under lockdown from Wednesday," said Additional Deputy Commissioner Shamim Hossain Reza.

As a result, transportations, shops, offices and courts will remain closed while emergency services remain active in limited capacity, he added.

According to official sources, the lockdown will come into effect from 12pm Wednesday and continue until further notice.

The decision was taken after 14 people from Sadar upazila, including Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, minister of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, tested positive for Covid-19, taking the total infection toll to 63 in the district.

Earlier this week, few areas including the municipality town in Cox’s Bazar were labelled as red zones and thus went into lockdown for 14 days from Saturday.
