Ten Bangladeshi citizens, who were stranded in India due to coronavirus lockdown, returned Friday evening through the Tamabil border in Sylhet’s Gowainghat upazila.
Syed Moudud Ahmed, in-charge of Tamabil immigration police, confirmed the matter, adding that Oikya Nap President Pankaj Bhattacharya is also among the returnees, reports UNB.
Moudud said they went to India at different times and got stuck there due to the ongoing lockdown over coronavirus.
He thanked the initiative of the Bangladesh government as the stranded people were able to make a safe return.
Dr Rashidul Islam, of Gowainghat Upazila Health Complex, said a medical team screened all the returnees and found none of them with symptoms similar to that of coronavirus.
They were allowed to return to their respective homes, he added.
A total of 17 Bangladeshis have returned home from India through Tamabil border since May.
