A Bangladeshi youth, Shahed Mia, 25, has been killed in an attack by Khasia people in India after he illegally entered the country through the Kanaighat border in Sylhet.
The incident occurred at around 3:30am on Friday.
The deceased, Shahed, was the son of Mosahid Mia from the Mangalpur village in Kanaighat, Sylhet.
According to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sources, Shahed entered India through the border under the jurisdiction of the Jakiganj Battalion (BGB-19) at 3:30am on Friday.
At one point, Shahed got involved in a conflict with local smugglers, the “Khasia” people, which led to his death in the attack. The BGB later informed the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) about the matter.
On Friday afternoon, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Nazmul Haque, the commanding officer of BGB’s 48th Battalion, confirmed the information.
He said: “A Bangladeshi youth named Shahid is killed in the attack by Indian Khasia people. Preparations are underway to bring the body back to Bangladesh. Additionally, legal action against the involved Indian Khasia individuals is in process by the BSF.”
