Coronavirus: Confirmed cases cross 1,000 mark in Chittagong

So far, 140 patients have returned home after recovering from the coronavirus in the district

The number of coronavirus cases in Chittagong has crossed 1000 mark as a record of 256 new infections were reported in a single day on Wednesday.

With each day passing, the death toll from the deadly viral disease has been climbing in Chittagong.

As of Wednesday, the district recorded a total of 1,218 confirmed cases of Covid-19. Of them, 45 patients have died of the deadly viral disease.

On Tuesday, as many 127 people tested positive which is the second-highest recorded case in a single day in the district.

Currently, 367 persons are in home-quarantine while 163 persons are in isolation.

According to Chittagong Civil Surgeon office, 52% of infected people are within the 21-40 age bracket.

While 75% of infected people are from city areas while the remaining 25% of infected people are from different upazilas of the district.

Chittagong Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said that Chittagong is now witnessing community transmission of the novel coronavirus.

“We should be careful as the number of people getting infected with the deadly viral disease is increasing with each day passing. We should abide by all the health regulations and social distancing to contain the spread of Covid-19,” said the Civil Surgeon.
