A total of 57 extremists, who came back to normal life after surrendering to the administration early last year, were given Tk50,000 each in Rajshahi.
Rajshahi District Police administration organized a program on Monday at the police lines parade ground to handover cheques for the money by maintaining social distancing and other security measures amid the Covid-19 pandemic, reports BSS.
Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, handed over the cheques as financial contribution from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Deputy Inspector General of Police AKM Hafiz Akter, Joint Director of National Security Intelligence Jahir Uddin, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hamidul Haque and Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shahidullah were present at the program.
The 57 cheque-recipients among around 600 members of different extremist organizations in the country’s 15 northern and southern districts, including Rajshahi, had surrendered to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in Pabna on April 9 last year in a bid to return to normal life.
Most of the extremists, who surrendered, belonged to outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party, New Purba Banglar Communist Party, Nakshal, Purba Banglar Sarbahara, and north Bengal-based Kadamati.
The outlaws were from Naogaon, Joypurhat, Rajshahi, Sirajganj, Natore, Bogra, Faridpur, Rajbari, Khulna, Sarkhira, Narail, Jessore, Tangail, and Pabna.
While surrendering, they also handed over 68 firearms and 575 locally made weapons.
