The walls of Narayanganj city are now being decorated with beautiful graffiti to tell the heroic tales of those who lost their lives while fighting on the frontlines against the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The graffiti art program was launched across city on May 13 by the Narayanganj unit of Gono Songhoti Andolon.
Visiting the city streets on Sunday, this correspondent found the wall between Chashara’s Haque Plaza and Mark Tower has been decorated with a graffiti paying tribute of four heroes who lost their lives to the deadly virus – Dr Md Moyeen Uddin, police constable Jasimuddin, journalist Humayun Kabir, and banker Mujtaba Shahriar.
At the city’s Mandalpara bridge area, graffiti on the outer wall of the local power office reads: “Not only masks, but social distancing is also needed to prevent corona.” Similarly, on the wall near the city’s Modern Diagnostic Centre area, a wide graffitti talks about protecting lives and the environment.
At Ghorshal’s Balu Maath area, a wall has been covered with a beautiful graffiti on issues related to global warming and climate change.
A group of former and existing students of Narayanganj Charukala Institute have been working to bring this program to life. They said more than 30 such artwork will be made across the city.
Talking to Dhaka Tribune, Gono Songhoti Andolon Narayanganj unit Convener Tariqul Sujon said: “People are now fighting with their lives with this coronavirus. We want to use these graffiti to spread hope and courage among the people through stories of selfless deeds of ordinary people against this pandemic. These walls will remain as a witness to the bravery and courage of our doctors, health workers, police, journalists, bank officials, garment workers, farmers , students, and the this grave hour of the world.”
