14 houses gutted in Rangamati: Fourteen houses were destroyed in a fire at Reserve Mukh area of Rangamati district town on Saturday. Quoting witnesses, Ratan Kumar Nath, assistant director of Rangamati Fire Service, said the fire originated from a stove around 8:30am and engulfed the adjoining houses, reports UNB. Three firefighting units along with army and police extinguished the fire after an hour's frantic effort. The estimated loss caused by the fire was about Tk10 lakh, claimed the affected people.

Man killed by son in Khagrachhari: A retired bank official was killed allegedly by his son at Kolabagan area of Sadar upazila on Friday night. The deceased is Alef Khan, 67. Police arrested Jahangir Alam in connection with the murder, said Khagrachhari Sadar police station OC Md Rashid Ahmmed. According to a murder case filed by the victim's daughter, Jahangir Alam Khan often assaulted his father for money and strangled him to death on Friday night.

2 high profile criminals arrested in Bhola and Mymensingh: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained 8 people including two high-profile criminals from Bhola and Mymensingh on Saturday. The detainees included Abul Bashar Shikdar, 42, and Yasin Arafat Shaon. RAB 8 arrested Bashar from Dakshin Rajapur area of Bhola sadar. He had 25 cases filed against him, including murder and rape. Meanwhile, RAB 14 arrested Shaon and six others with huge amounts of contrabands and firearms in their possession, reports a Mymensingh correspondent. Sources from police and RAB confirmed the incidents.

Body of infant recovered from septic tank in Lakshmipur: Police recovered the partially decomposed body of an infant from the septic tank of her house in Chandraganj upazila on Saturday. The deceased Farzana Sultana went missing four days ago and a case was filed on May 5 in this connection, confirmed Chandraganj police station OC Md Jashim Uddin. Police are investigating the matter and the body was sent for an autopsy, said OC Jashim.

Woman, son found dead in Naogaon: Police recovered the bodies of a woman and her son from their residence in Raninagar upazila of Naogaon on Saturday. The deceased were Rasheda Begum, 55, and her son Aslam Hossain, 35, confirmed Raninagar police station OC Johurul Hoque. Quoting locals, OC Johurul said Rasheda might have had a heart attack after watching her son's body hanging from the ceiling. Necessary actions will be taken after an investigation into the matter, added the OC.
