Two suspected Rohingya drug dealers were killed in a reported gunfight with police in Teknaf of Cox's Bazar.
The incident took place at the Uluboniya border area of Whykong union in Teknaf upazila around 4:30am on Saturday.
The identities of the deceased is yet to be ascertained, said police sources.
Teknaf police station OC Pradip Kumar Das said, acting on a tip-off, police conducted a drive at the Uluboniya border area, where Rohingya drug dealers opened fire upon the police team.
Police fired in self defence which injured two drug dealers. They were initially taken to the Teknaf Upazila Health Complex and later to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead, OC Pradip further said.
Dr Zakaria Mahmud, doctor at the emergency ward of the Teknaf hospital, said they sent the Rohingyas to the Cox's Bazar hospital after police brought them there for treatment and two police members, injured from the incident, were also given treatment.
Police recovered 150,000 pieces of yaba, a shotgun, and 10 rounds of bullets from the spot and legal procedures will be followed in connection with the matter, OC Pradip said.
