Settlers announce counter programs in Khagrachhari

Three Bangali settler groups in Khagrachhari called the political counter programmes in the district, created panic among locals. Sources said Parbatya Bangali Chhatra Parishad (Lokman-Mazid Panel) called an anti-militant mass gathering in district town on Saturday where Parbatya Bangali Chhatra Parishad (Main-Masum Panel) also called a hartal and Parbatya Chattagram Somo-Odhikar Andolon announced a blockade across the district on the same day. However, law enforcement agencies restricted all the gatherings. Md Rashedul Islam, deputy commissioner of Khagrachari, said: “We did not give them permissions as several factions announced plans to hold programme in the same places and time.” Leaders of Parbatya Bangali Chhatra Parishad alleged their gathering was foiled by all the other parties announcing programmes at the same time.
