Bangladesh Railway launched special parcel trains on the Chittagong-Dhaka-Chittagong route from Friday, to ensure a smoother supply of agricultural goods, vegetables, food, and perishable goods, in this coronavirus pandemic crisis.

Shadequr Rahman, Chittagong Divisional Manager of Bangladesh Railway said that a special parcel train carrying furniture, shoes, tyres and vegetables left Chittagong station around 10am on Friday.

“The special parcel train from Chittagong will reach Dhaka around 8pm. The special trains will stop at Pahartali, Sitakunda, Chinki Astana, Feni, Nangolcourt, Laksam and Comilla railway stations,” said the Divisional Manager.

The movement of all passenger trains has been suspended since March 25 to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Freight trains, however, are outside the purview of restrictions.
