Authorities at the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) have sent 78 intern doctors to quarantine after one of their colleagues’ coronavirus test came back positive.
SOMCH Deputy Director Himangshu Lal Roy told UNB that eight of the interns’ have been already tested and the rest will be tested gradually.
All of the them have been kept at the hostel for interns of the hospital, he said before adding that the infected intern doctor, who was tested positive on Wednesday, has been kept at isolation at the same facility.
Meanwhile, a pregnant woman at the SOMCH’s Gynaecology unit was tested positive on Thursday, said Roy. Doctors and healthcare workers, who came in contact with the patient, will be sent on quarantine, he added.
Earlier on April 13, a total of 44 healthcare workers, including 19 doctors, of the hospital were sent on home-quarantine as they came in contact with a COVID-19 patient.
On April 15, Dr Moyeen Uddin, assistant professor of the Medicine department of the hospital, died of coronavirus at a Dhaka hospital as the first physician in the country.
Dr Moyeen was detected with coronavirus on April 5 as the first case of Covid-19 in the district.
