The National Press Society in Sylhet has come up with a thoughtful initiative to encourage charity and donation among the less fortunate especially during the countrywide shutdown which was issued to contain the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) spread.
The humanitarian organization launched a project called House of Humanity (Manobotar Ghor) in Sylhet city that will aid impoverished community with essential commodities during the present crisis.
This initiative is quite similar to the spontaneous countrywide initiative known as ‘Wall of Humanity’, for people without warm clothes.
With a similar idea, the House of Humanity stores packed food supplies as well as cloths and masks for the needy to avail at any time.
Md Jumman, Sylhet divisional president of the organization, said: “Anyone can donate food and clothes here. If someone wishes to donate food from home, we can collect it if contacted at 01716543109 and 01971399109.
Each sack of food supplies contain two kg of potato, two kg of rice, half a kg of lentil, half a kg of onions and a kg of salt. In a separate section the steel rack stores cloths and masks, he added.
The House of Humanity was set up in front of Halu Majhi Jame Mosque in ward 24 Tuesday afternoon.
The organizers expressed hope over expanding the initiative, once adequate numbers of donors join the cause.
