The High Court has asked the authorities concerned to submit an investigation report on the deaths of 33 animals and birds at the Wildlife Conservation Centre in Sylhet's Tilagarh Eco Park.
The secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock was given a 30-day deadline for submitting the report.
The authorities were ordered to investigate if there was any negligence on the part of Tanha Enterprise, which is responsible for managing the Eco park, and also to investigate the overall indiscipline and irregularities at the Wildlife Conservation Centre.
The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why their failure to protect the lives of animals and birds should not be considered illegal.
Besides ensuring the safety and security of the center, the court also asked the director general of the Department of Livestock Services to establish a special unit in the animal hospital immediately with relevant doctors and nurses to provide the animals with proper treatment.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mustafizur Rahman issued the ruling yesterday after hearing a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Manoj Kumar Bhowmick on Wednesday.
