3 injured as two trains collide in Chittagong

Four member probe committee formed, asked to submit report within three working days

At least three people have been injured after a shuttle train of Chittagong University (CU) collided with a wagon train at Sholoshahar railway station in Chittagong.

The accident occurred on Wednesday morning.

Sholoshahar Station Master Jafarullah said: "A number of compartments of the shuttle train got derailed after colliding with the wagon train around 10:15am."

The shuttle train was heading towards the port city from the university when the accident took place, he added.

Sholoshahar police station Government Railway Police (GRP) outpost In-Charge Zakir Hossain said: "The accident left the shuttle train's Loco Master Abdullah-Hel-Baki and passengers GRP constables Mizan and Shariful injured."

"The loco master received primary treatment and the two constables have been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH)."

The rescue work is in progress, he added.

Chittagong Divisional Railway Manager Sadiqur Rahman said: "A four member probe committee, headed by Divisional Transport Officer Omar Faruk, has been formed and asked to submit the report within three working days." 

According to the primary investigation, the accident happened due to human failure, he added.
