India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has assured Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to take steps in curbing border killings in future.

The assurance came at a flag meeting between the two sides, held atthe BSF Behrampore Sector, India at the Padma Char side opposite toSonikandi BOP in Pabaupazila of Rajshahi on Wednesday.

BSF 35 Battalion Baharampur Sector DIG KunalMajumder led the BSF delegation and while BGB Rajshahi Sector Commander Col Tuhin Masud led the BGB side.

During meeting, BGB presented two important issues at the meeting – border killings and BSF’s infiltration and capturing of Bangladeshis, Col Tuhin said.

BGB strongly protested against the killings of Bangladeshi citizens by BSF along the Rajshahi border area.

At the same time, BSF has been requested to handover anyone who enters Indian territory in future through flag meetings.

BGB also informed their Indian counterpart about the arrest of five fishermen from Padma in Sonikandi BOP area of Pabaupazila.

Col Masud said: “BSF had expressed regrets over the border killings. They also said cattle smugglers enter India ignoring BSF barriers and many times the smugglers also attack BSF, which forced them to shoot.”

Both sides agreed to follow the Bangladesh-India Border agreement to resolve issues in the future.
