Wild elephants trampled a woman to death in Bandarban early on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in Soroi Union of Lama upazila in Bandarban.
The deceased is Jahera Begum, 54.
Locals said : "On Wednesday at dawn, a herd of wild elephants raided Kailaiya Para of Soroi union in Lama upazila. At one point, the pack demolished a home and trampled its owner Jahera to death. Witnessing the chaos created by the elephants, the other residents of the area fled the scene. The herd is still in the mountainous area of Soroi union."
Amanul Haq, OC of Lama Police Station, said : "Hearing of the incident, a police team has been dispatched to the area to recover the body of Jahera."
Due to deforestation, encroachment of humans into elephant habitats, and severe food shortages, wild elephants have recently been assaulting various localities in different unions of Lama and Naikhangchori upazilas in Bandarban.
On November 21 of last year,an elderly citizen named Nurul Islam was killed by a herd of wild elephants in Fashiakhali Union of Lama upazila.
