An Awami League leader from Naikkhyangchhari Upazila in Bandarban has committed suicide at a hotel in Cox's Bazar, reportedly over conflict with a local leader.
Md Ismail, 48, was found hanging in his room at Hotel Palongki Sunday. He was the former vice-president of Naikkhyangchhari Upazila unit.
Cox's Bazar police Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Kamrul Azam said that Ismail had rented a room on Saturday and was supposed to leave the place Sunday afternoon.
As he did not check out, the hotel staff went to his room and become concerned as he did not respond at all.
The hotel authorities then informed the police, who broke into the room and found Ismail's hanging body.
Prior to committing suicide, Ismail posted on Facebook some allegations against another Awami League leader of Naikkhyangchhari, Shafiullah. Ismail wrote that Shafiullah had made his life miserable.
Police said that they would investigate the incident to confirm whether it was a suicide or murder.
