At least eight people were killed in road accidents in Comilla, Narsingdi, Manikganj, Natore and Jessore on Friday.
In Comilla, at least three people were killed, and 20 others injured in a collision between four vehicles on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Sadar South upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Shajedur Rahman Santu, 38, from West Bagichao area, and Rahim Manik, 40, from Chittagong’s Sitakunda upazila. The other victim could not be identified immediately.
Md Farid, a local fire service official, said: "A bus from Hanif Paribahan rammed into a truck near Mallika Filling Station. Then the Hanif Paribahan bus was rammed by a bus of Shanti Paribahan, and finally a bus of Shapla Paribahan rammed into the Shanti Paribahan bus.
Comilla Highway police station OC Alamgir Hossain said: “The injured were taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital.”
In Narsingdi, two people died in a head-on collision between a pickup truck, and a bus on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Belabo upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Babul Miya, 45, and Jamshed Miya, 40, confirmed Bhairab Highway police station OC Mamun Rahman.
He said: “The body of the deceased were not yet handed over. The bus was seized but its driver fled the scene.”
In Manikganj, two women were killed when the bus carrying them fell off the Dhaka-Aricha Highway and into a ditch in Ghior upazila.
The deceased could not be identified immediately, said Barangail Highway police station.
In Natore, a motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a truck near Balua-Basoa intersection in Singair upazila.
The deceased Ashraful Islam, 35, died on the spot, said Singair police station OC Monirul Islam.
In Jessore, an infant was killed and 10 others injured when a truck and a Satkhira-bound bus collided head-on at Harikhali-Kuchemora area of Sharsha upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased Aleja Khatun, 3, died on the spot as the bus overturned into a roadside ditch after the collision, said Navaron Highway police outpost in-charge Titu Mia.
