A troop of Hanuman langurs laid siege to the main entrance of Keshabpur Police Station, reportedly to seek justice after being assaulted.
Locals said the troop, which included both adults and baby langurs, first laid siege in front of the police station on Sunday morning, and then entered the office room of the duty officer.
The intrusion of wild animals into the police station shocked both police officials, and the people inside the station’s boundaries.
Confirming the incident, Keshabpur Police Station officer-in-charge Md Shahin said: “After hearing the incident, I came out of the police station, and saw a langur couple sitting on one side with a baby while 20 to 25 adult langurs entered the duty officer’s room.
“I understood that the baby might have been injured in a fight,” he added.
The OC said after assuring the couple of justice for the baby, and giving them some food, the troop left the police station after an hour.
He also said, this is the second time the monkeys came to the police station in search of justice.
“By looking at them, I understand that they did not get food to eat. Later, I found out that they weren’t provided with food the day before. I assured them that I will talk to the authorities in this regard, and then they left,” OC Shahin added.
Meanwhile, while talking to newsmen, Keshabpur upazila forest official Abdul Monayem Hossain said, “There are around 500 Hanuman langurs in the upazila. The authorities provide 32 kilogram of bananas, 2 kilogram of nuts, and 2 kilogram of bread for them every day. However, the amount of food supplied remains inadequate. Thus, these langurs venture into human habitats in search of food. The Hanuman langurs are very sensitive. They visit the police station in groups whenever they are attacked. Such incidents have also taken place in the past.
